By the Pond in an English Country Garden
Many years ago, the water from a natural spring was dammed to form a pond. It is now a haven for water-loving plants, trees, birds, fish and insects. Some of the plants are natural and some have been added over the years.
It is about 5 feet deep in the middle and home to some rather large carp.
During the summer months in the early evening, it is quite common to see bats swooping down, not only to catch insects but to drink from the pond.
We have even seen an otter exploring by the pond in the half-dark. It had probably come from the local canal about half a mile away. Sadly, no photos.
